To build relationships and
community, our staff a few years ago read
How Full is Your Bucket
by Tom Rath. I found this a fantastic book and was
motivated to put drops into my colleagues' buckets to fill them!

Three summers ago, I was walking through Barnes and Noble and
found this great book sticking out from a shelf called, Have
You Filled a Bucket Today? written by Carol McCloud. Oh, how
I love when a book is askew on the shelf pulling me towards it
with such gravity!

I read it to and immediately knew it belonged in my classroom.
To support our Woodland Wisdom Character Development Philosophy
I use this book as an introduction to life, really. I read it
to the parents of my students on Curriculum Night and encourage
everyone to share it with family, friends, and students
EVERYWHERE!

As I researched the website and read my Weekly Newsletter from
Bucket Fillers, I was convinced that we need this attitude in
our lives and oh, wouldn't the world be a better place if we
followed this philosophy daily. The purpose of this book, in my
opinion, is to meet certain life long goals with the best of
attitudes toward one another:
~To teach
children how to reach out and express love, respect and
appreciation to others
~To help children become other-centered rather than
self-centered To help children express their feelings (good and
bad) in a healthy manner
~To help children understand where feelings originate and how to
protect their feelings from being hurt
~To establish a framwork for more constructive words and actions
and less bullying
~To teach children how to reach out and express love, respect
and appreciation to others
~To create more positive home and school environments

Concepts Learned
Bucket Filling (showing love and
respect for others)
Bucket Dipping (bullying)

Feel free to visit their website and sign up for a weekly
newsletter if you'd like at

Together we can fill buckets and make the world a better place.
